Popular Nigerian Social Media influencer and activist, Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) has been arrested by suspected police officers at the Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) office.
NPO Reported that the activist had earlier stormed the bank with his mother over the deduction of the woman’s salary for the settlement of a loan she allegedly took.
As confirmed in separate videos by a man who claimed to be VDM’s brother as well as his manager, Kokopee, the activist was reportedly apprehended by the suspected armed police officers and whisked away.
VDM’s acclaimed brother, in the video shared on X, narrated how their mother had called and informed him about the activist’s arrest.
“He followed my Mom to the bank and he posted that yes he is in GTBank and they trying to sort out things as the bank are complying with him. Next moment, I got a call from my Mom. She was crying that policemen came and arrested my brother.
“On what basis? Is it a crime to come and speak out for Nigerians when people are blind? Or is it a crime to come and make people see when they can’t see? I don’t understand. What is this guy’s crime for Christ sake? Why do you people keep coming for this guy?
“I don’t have problem with the police people because you guys are just people on uniform. But then, wetin dey so this country that you feel you can just come and arrest people anyhow?” He said.
On his part, Kokopee in his video also shared on X called out GTBank, demanding his whereabout as he claimed he was last seen at the bank.
“GTBank come and tell us the whereabout of VeryDarkMan because the last place we know we saw him was in your bank. VeryDarkMan has been missing for the past few hours.
“It is alleged that some police officers came to arrest VeryDarkMan inside the GTBank premises. Please come and tell Nigerians where he is. Is this a move to cover up your tracks? All effort to look for him has been unsuccessful. We want to know where is VDM.” Kokopee said.
The activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, also confirmed VDM’s arrest in a post on his official X handle.
While condemning the arrest, Adeyanju vowed to sue GTBank if the the activist is not released.
“VDM arrested by the police at GTB. Spoke to them before he was arrested. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.
“We will sue GTB and the security agencies responsible for the arrest of VDM if he’s not released with immediate effect.” Adeyanju wrote.
