An official of the Human Rights Commission has announced that detained Nigerian social media influencer and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, will be released within the next 24 hours.
NPO Reported that VeryDarkMan was on Friday arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His arrest had sparked public outrage with the EFCC ‘s initial silence leading to protest in different parts of the country for the activist’s release.
However, the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, had been the epicentre of the agitation as protesters, yesterday, stormed the Guarantee Trust Bank’s (GTBank) branch where he was arrested.
The protesters would then proceed to the EFCC headquarters where they were restrained by police officers.
They, however, assembled again at the commission’s office today to drive home their demand.
On account of the mounting pressure, the EFCC finally issued a statement confirming its arrest and detention of the activist.
The commission disclosed that VeryDarkMan has been granted administrative bail and will be released as soon as the bail conditions are fulfilled.
Confirming the development to the protesters, the Human Rights Commission official, whose identity could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this report, announced that the activist will be released within the next 24 hours.
He disclosed that the commission’s director made few calls, prior to the arrival of the protesters at the EFCC’s headquarters yesterday and has been assured that VeryDarkMan will be released within the stipulated period.
“We have spoken with the authorities yesterday before you came here.
“Our director was able to make a few calls to know what is happening and they promised him that the man is going to be released.
“He made calls and those calls, I think, have yielded results because they have promised to release him within 24 hours. We are still going to follow up with them to make sure that VDM” He said.
