Less than three weeks after the daylight killing of one of the followers of the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun, Asiri Eniba, Spanner, another NURTW chieftain and loyalist of the All Progressive Congress has been killed.
Kazeem, popularly called Kekere Pasuma, was allegedly shot near the Missionary Primary School, Apomu Saturday night.
NPO Reports gathered that Kazeem had received several death threats since the conclusion of the last governorship election allegedly from those asking him to quit his position as the Chairman of the transport workers in the area.
But Kazeem had reportedly resisted threats to make him step down for another loyalist of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Saturday, the gunmen had reportedly trailed him to a petrol station where they caught up with him and shot him in the chest.
It could not be ascertained if he died on the spot because his attackers carried him into a car and drove off with him.
“I think what is happening in Osun at the moment is the desperation of the PDP loyalists to take over the control of the transport unions at all levels. I think it is also ahead of the 2023 elections,” a member of the union in the state confided in the NPO Reports on Sunday
As at the time of filing the report, the police command in the state was yet to make any statement.
Attempts to speak with spokeswoman of the police Yemisi Opalola had not yielded results as her phone was showing it was switched off.
While some claimed that the NURTW chieftain may have died, some others said he may survive it if he is allowed to immediate medical attention.
The attack came amidst growing cases of violence post the governorship election on July 16 which was won by the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke.
Just on Friday, some thugs stoned and damaged vehicles in the convoy of the wife of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Kafayat at the Owode market, Ede.
Some security operatives in the convoy were reportedly wounded when they tried to clear the road for the First Lady after a truck had allegedly broken in the middle of the road.
Before that, gunmen had killed a NURTW member, Spanner, believed to be loyal to the chieftain of the union in Olorunda Local Government Area, Kazeem Oloyede, Asiri Eniba.
He was gunned down at the Oke Ijetu area of the state capital along with his five year old daughter.
It was the same day his wife had been delivered of a baby.
