Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have arrested an unidentified man for being in possession of a large sum of money on election day.
The man, who was driving a Toyota Camry car, was apprehended by people who suspected that he had some things in the boot of his car that they needed to see.
The man, a middle aged man, had initially declined to open the booth of the car but succumbed to pressure after DSS officials forced him to open it.
In the car were found two bags containing cash.
He was promptly arrested and taken into the waiting bus belonging to the security agents.
He was arrested at Ward 4, Polling Unit 007 outside St. Stephen’s Primary School, Akure, Ondo State around 9 am on election day.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier called out the All Progressive Congress (APC) over alleged vote buying at the ongoing Ondo state governorship election.
It was not clear which of the competing political parties the man is loyal to.
Vote-buying is an offence under the Nigeria’s electoral law.
