Barely a week after been thrown in a state of distress, residents of Eruku community finally have a cause to celebrate again as the 38 worshippers kidnapped by suspected bandits regained their freedom.
NPO Reported that the bandits had last week Tuesday stormed the border community in Ekiti Local Government Area and attacked the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun, killing three people while 38 others.
The development was further followed by reported kidnapping of over 200 students and teachers of St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Niger State.
These had sparked public outrage with calls for the release of the kidnapped victims.
After days of public outcry, President Bola Tinubu on Sunday confirmed the release of the 38 worshippers and 51 out of the kidnapped students.
Also confirming the release of the worshippers was the Kwara State Government.
As contained in a statement issued on its official X handle, the state government lauded the intervention of the Federal Government in the success of the rescue mission with the state governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq attributing the success to the hands-on approach of Tinubu.
In the wake of the development, residents of Eruku and other members of the attacked church went into celebration mode.
The residents, as captured in a video shared on X, were seen singing praises to God over the release of the worshippers.
