The Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday was not only tense with lawmakers’ argument over the spate the insecurity in the country but also saw the chamber witnessed a real-time situation as one of the lawmakers presented a video of bullets dropping off a truck loaded with ammunition.
Amid the heated debate of the security issue, Kebbi lawmaker, Sen. Garba Maidoki, approached the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, with a video forwarded to him during the plenary session yesterday.
Maidoki, in a video shared on X on Thursday, disclosed that the vehicle was spotted along the Zaria-Sokoto Road in Kaduna state.
While the said video was not projected on screen, Akpabio however explained how the bullets were dropping along the road with the truck driver unaware of the situation.
He called on the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police to ensure the driver is apprehended before he arrived at his destination.
“Senator Garba just showed me another video right now happening along Zaria-Sokoto highway.
“The bullets were dropping on the road and the driver did not know.
“He was still going and the bullets were dropping. I hope he has been apprehended.
“I use this opportunity to call on the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna state to quickly send a team to go and escort the trailer loaded with bullets.” He said.
Akpabio thereafter called for the suspension of discussion over the insecurity as he held that the discourse on nation’s security situation should not be made public.
“I think we should stop further discussion on this matter and go into the prayers. There is a lot of work to be done.
“This bullets that are dropping on the ground now, we need to make resolution on it before the bullet find their way into the hands of the bandits.
“These issues are too serious, and security issues should not be discussed in the open like this.” Akpabio said.
Meanwhile, the video clip as seen by NPO Reports correspondent showed the bullets lying across the stretch of the road before residents in the area cleared them off to avoid being stepped upon by vehicles.
