Demands Release from Detention

Embattled human right activist, Omoyele Sowore, has demanded for his release from detention while accusing President Bola Tinubu of turning Nigeria into what he described as foolish theatre.
NPO Reported that Sowore was on Wednesday detained at the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters in Abuja after honouring the Police invitation.
The Police had summoned the activist over the petition and lawsuit filed against him by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Sequel to the detention, Sowore on Thursday disclosed being assaulted with his arm broken during his forceful evacuation from the Force Headquarters by personnel attached to the IGP team.
While the development had triggered public outrage and intensified calls for the release of the Sahara Reporters publisher, the Force on Friday invited the press for a briefing.
The newsmen were granted the permission to speak with Sowore who confirmed the assault on him by the personnel.
He slammed the Force for inviting the media rather than getting him a doctor to treat his broken arm whcih as captured in a video shared on X, was strapped with white bandage.
“I’ve been expecting this nonsense from them since I was attacked. I know that the next thing they will do is to go and bring the Press with fake impression that I’m doing fine.
“There is no reason for my arrest. There is no basis for my attack in the first place.
“There is no basis for any citizen in Nigeria to be arrested by the IG because the IG feels threatened by the legality of his position. This shows to you that Nigeria is headed by headless people.
“I just want you to know that all this is uneccessary. What should have been done is that they don’t know what to do which is to swallow their pride, release me from detention, apologize to me, and ensure that I can go for proper treatment.
“Since I came here yesterday, they broke my arm, they have not been able bring a doctor. They went to bring a nurse.” He said.
Sowore labelled his detention as the height of foolishness from the IGP.
He expressed his disappointment in Tinubu for enabling the police to turn Nigeria into a foolish theatre.
“Instead of them bringing a doctor, they went to bring the media now. This is all manner of nonsense. I did not request for media. They are the ones who brought you.
“This is the height of foolishness from the IGP. I’m ashamed of the President of Nigeria that under his watch, Nigeria has become this kind of foolish theatre.” He added before newsmen were reportedly dismissed forcefully by the Police.
