Aggrieved traders at the popular Trade Fair market in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State have on Monday staged massive protest over alleged hike in shop and house rents.
This is coming barely a week after the Lagos State government stormed the market, demolishing several plazas and structures considered illegal.
As captured in videos shared on X, stalls and businesses were shut down as the traders marched across the market chanting solidarity songs.
One of the market main gates was also shut by the protesting traders with vehicular movement also obstructed in the axis.
While some of the posts had claimed the traders were protesting over alleged hike in shops and house rents, it however remains unclear if the alleged hike and demonstration were also connected to the demolition exercise.
NPO Reported that the demolition exercise was carried out in a joint operation by the Office the Lagos State Urban Development, Ministry of Physical Planning, and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
Other agencies involved in the exercise include Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), and the Office of Infrastructure.
