As President Holds Close-Door Meeting with Former Senate Leader

Former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, stressing that the country is facing right direction under his administration.
Lawan described Tinubu’s reforms as bold, courageous and profound steps towards the repositioning the Nigeria’s economy and beefing up the country’s security.
The ex-Senate President made this known following his visit to the President on Thursday evening.
Addressing newsmen after a close-door meeting with Tinubu, Lawan said he had visited the President to congratulate him over success of his reforms in the country.
He held that the Tinubu-led administration has succeeded in stabilising the economy and ensuring growth.
Lawan also noted the improvement in the security situation of the country, stressing that the administration’s investment in the security sector will pay off.
“I’ve come to see Mr. President to pay courtesy visit to congratulate him for doing a very good job for our country.
“Mr. President, in the last two years or so, have been taking very bold, courageous, profound steps to various reforms to reposition the economy of our country and also ramp up so much investment in the security sector to make our country safer.
“I think we have so far succeeded. Our economy is stabilised. We are facing the right direction and there is growth. What we need to do further is to ensure that this growth is all inclusive.
“The security situation is improving, though we have challenges from time to time.
“But I believe that the huge investment this administration is making is going to pay off and I believe that our armed forces and other security agencies are also committed.
“As we give them more resources, we expect them to do more and better.” He said.
Lawan, who was initially endorsed by late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, to succeed him, declared his support to Tinubu and loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He described Tinubu as a listening President while pledging to do his best in ensuring that the administration succeed.
“Mr. President is our leader. I support this administration and Mr. President fully. I believe that as a loyal APC member, I should do my best to make this administration succeed and as a legislator.
“I have the responsibility to ensure that my Senatorial district and indeed the country benefit from this administration.
“Where we feel the administration to refocus or rework or consider certain issues, we will always do so because that will make our performance more efficient and effective.
“This is a listening President. You have seen in so many cases, the President or the administration will come up with reform issue and when the public feel otherwise, the administration will consider.
“As our leader, we are behind him fully and completely to ensure that this administration and subsequent APC administration deliver to Nigeria.” He added
Recall that Buhari endorsement of Lawan over Tinubu during APC campaign for the 2023 Presidential election had led to divide within the party.
However, Buhari was compelled to shelve the idea of having Lawan as his successor as majority of the APC leaders backed Tinubu for the Presidential ticket.
