Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has made U-turn over his initial directive on the arrest and shaving of people with dreadlocks in the state.
NPO Reported that the governor had yesterday charged security operatives to cut the dreadlocks once the individuals are arrested and fine them.
This was amongst other directives issued by the governor in said effort to curb hooliganism in the state, especially at the capital, Minna.
Bago would, however, readdress the directive while speaking at an event held on Wednesday in Minna.
As against his initial claims, the governor held that he has no problem with dreadlocks but with cultists in the state.
The governor urged business owners with dreadlock to come to the Niger, stressing that his directive was misinterpreted and a mere media propaganda.
“Yesterday we read a riot act on hooliganism and people misused our words for people who have dreadlocks. We don’t have problems with dreadlocks, but we problem with the cult here with dreadlocks.
“So, if you have dreadlocks and you have business, please come to Niger state.
“All that is a media propaganda. We are not driving dreadlocks from Niger state. We are only driving that cult that is becoming a menace.” Bago said.
