Express Shock over Invasion

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have on Thursday said they have rejected the impeached speaker, Mudashiru Obasa entirely.
The lawmakers, who appeared furious while speaking with journalists at the premises of the House after the invasion of the premises by the former Speaker, the lawmakers said the leaders of the All Progressive Congress need to treat them with dignity as they are representatives of their people.
In what appeared like as desperate point to showdown with the leadership of the party, the lawmakers said they were miffed by the audacity of the former speaker to come to the House of Assembly with a retinue of security personnel.
NPO reported that Obasa, who was impeached by the Assembly last month, had stormed the House with his supporters while reiterating that he remains the Speaker as against the elected Mojisola Meranda.
Addressing the newsmen after the drama, the lawmakers expressed their disappointment with the development.
Hon. Ogundipe Kayode, who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers, expressed concern over being kept in the dark by the APC leadership.
“This is Lagos and this Lagos State House of Assembly.
“We were approached by our leaders that we should remain calm and take things easy.
“But we are shocked to see what is happening today. We are still expecting them to come and tell us where we went wrong.
“We won’t take laws into our hands just like we told the staff that they should not take law into their hands.
“But we all belong to different constituencies, and we have our mandate.
“Whatever has to happen, the leadership should speak with us. We are not happy, and we are already demystified.
“We are shocked to see what is happening despite the fact that this is Lagos.
“This is where everything starts, and it stops. We’ve been law abiding. We’ve not gone out of our way. We have not done anything against the state or against anybody.
“But we also want to be respected; to be given our dignity; to be shown that we were elected. So I’m appealing to the leaders of our party that we cannot continue this way.” He said.
The lawmakers urged Obasa to allow the court proceeding take its due course since he had filed a lawsuit against them.
“They have taken us to court, and they should allow the process follow its due course. But what we are seeing today is a charade. It’s uncalled for. It’s an embarassment because for me to even enter the gate, I was stopped.
“We’ve said it clearly; we are not against the leadership’s decision. But they should call us and tell us to our face and not just hearing rumours.” they said.
