President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to winning the fight against insecurity across Nigeria.
Tinubu also pledged sustained Federal Government support for tourism, agriculture, food security and rural development across the country.
He said the administration would deepen investments in sectors that create jobs, boost local economies and strengthen national cohesion.
The President made the pledge at the grand finale of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival in Argungu, Kebbi.
The centuries-old festival, revived after years of security challenges, attracted thousands of spectators, cultural troupes and competitors from across Nigeria.
The development is contained in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday in Abuja.
The President described the festival as proof of restored stability and normalcy in Kebbi and neighbouring states once troubled by insecurity.
“Congratulations. Well done. Very good show. Remarkable history,” Tinubu said, commending the organisers for sustaining the cultural heritage.
“This festival has endured for 83 years and stands as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience and peaceful coexistence among our people,” he added.
He said the colourful displays and large turnout reflected renewed confidence in public safety and community harmony.
Tinubu commended the security arrangements, stressing that cultural and tourism-driven events flourish only in a peaceful environment.
“A socio-cultural event like this can only thrive and become a tourism attraction where the security atmosphere is conducive,” he said.
He attributed the improving security situation to sustained investment in intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration and grassroots engagement.
“I assure you that the fight against insecurity of any kind, including banditry and insurgency, will be won.
“Our farmers, including fishermen, traders and families, will be able to go about their lives without fear or injury,” he said.
Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting farmers and fishermen with inputs, financing and market access.
He noted that Kebbi remains a key contributor to Nigeria’s rice production and inland fisheries.
“Working jointly with the state government, we will continue to give our farmers the necessary support,” he said.
Gov. Nasir Idris thanked the President for honouring the event and demonstrating solidarity with the people of Kebbi.
He highlighted ongoing investments in roads, health facilities, schools and agricultural expansion across the state.
The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, described the festival as a symbol of courage, reconciliation, peace and enduring friendship.
He said the event continues to unite diverse communities and promote Kebbi’s cultural identity globally.
Deputy Governor, Umar Tafida, announced Abubakar Usman from Maiyama as overall winner with a 59kg catch.
Usman received N1 million and two brand-new cars in recognition of his outstanding performance.
Abdullahi Garba from Argungu came second with a 40kg fish.
He was awarded N750,000, a brand-new car and a Hajj seat by the state government.
Two contestants from Jigawa and Kogi states jointly claimed third place with a 33kg catch.
They received N1 million and a motorcycle each as prizes for their efforts.
The four winning fish were later presented to the President as souvenirs, drawing cheers from the crowd.
