A governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State Prof Uche Ikonne has died.
His son, Dr. Uche Ikonne who confirmed the death on Wednesday wrote; “I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Prof Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who died at the National Hospital Abuja today January 2023 25, by 4 am after a brief illness.
“He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests from which he didn’t recover from.”
Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family,”
A former Vice-chancellor of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), Ikonne had emerged the candidate of the PDP for the 2023 governorship election in Abia State.
Ikonne had scored 468 votes to beat his closest rival, Lucky Igbokwe, who got 45 votes out of the total 554 votes cast.
The only female aspirant, Mrs. Ezenwanyi Ngozi Jonah got five votes in the election which was presided over by former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.
