Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has slammed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Nigerian military following clash between the Minister and soldiers who stopped him from gaining access to a land in Abuja.
NPO earlier Reported that a tense drama had ensued between Wike-led FCT Administration officials and the soldiers on Tuesday over a land owned by a retired Naval chief.
The Minister was met with a fierce confrontation by the soldiers deployed to secure the land.
Coupled with the heated argument between Wike and leader of the team, clash also broke out between the Minister’s security aides and the soldiers which lingered for couple of minutes.
The visibly enraged FCT Minister eventually left the site alongside his officials.
Reacting to the development in a post shared on his X handle, Sowore faulted the soldiers’ presence on the land which he claimed was not part of their primary responsibility of safeguarding the country’s border.
The 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate further accused Wike creating similar scene with his obstruction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) arrest of a judge during his tenure as Rivers State Governor.
“The military’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the country’s borders, but instead, it is devoting resources to protect a parcel of land for a high-ranking officer, allegedly acting on ‘orders.’
“This pathetic scenario is the pervasive self-interest among officials who cater to the interests of a privileged minority at the expense of national protection with Wike not being an exception.
“As governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike too once stood in the way of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officers, gun blazing, stopping them from arresting a corrupt judge friend of his. What a country!” Sowore wrote.
