President Bola Tinubu has charged African leaders to make the continent a better place in the wake of event events happening in America and Europe.
Tinubu made charge during his address at the book launch of former Military Head of State, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd) held on Thursday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Expressing delight over the events happening across the developed nations, Tinubu harped that they served as a wake-up call to Africa, especially Nigeria.
He stressed on the need to take responsibility and decisions on behalf of the country.
“The situation that brought us together and the one that we continue from this moment on, the revolutionary courage that brought leadership out to build our country.
“I’m glad about what is happening in America and Europe. The contradiction we are seeing all over tells us to wake up and make Africa a better place, particularly in this country, Nigeria.
“I have said so much of responsibility and the need to take some decisions on behalf of this country. I want to thank all of you for your mandate, your patience, and perseverance.” Tinubu said.
Speaking on the launched book titled ” A Journey in Service; An Autobiography of Ibrahim Babangida”, Tinubu lauded the ex-military Head for his personality, character, and impact.
“It is very difficult to find the array of people that are present here if not because of your personality, character, and impact that you had” he said.
The President also acknowledged another former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, and former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
While expressing delight in Babangida’s restoration of Gowon’s rank during his regime, Tinubu reminisced on his relationship with Jonathan.
“General Gowon, I’m glad of the restoration of your ranks and everything. We learnt history from you from the concept. Thank you.
“Former President Goodluck Jonathan, we always interact. Sometimes we argue about the future of this country.” he said.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Babangida’s book launch had in attendance several former military Heads of States, past and present political office holders, and former Presidents from other countries.
Some of the dignitaries present at the event include Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajambiamilia, former Vice Presidents, Yemi Osinbanjo and Atiku Abubakar, Sen. George Akume, ; former Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwanwaso; former military Head of States, Abdulsalami Abubakar ex-Sierra Leone President Ernest Koroma, and his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Akufo-Addo who gave the keynote address.
