Two European climate change activists have on Friday caused drama at a global conference in London as they confronted Shell Company’s official, Felix Faber, over oil spillage and environmental pollution caused in Nigeria by the oil company.
As captured in a now viral video on social media, the yet-to-be identified activists- a male and female caught protocols at the 29th Independent Commodity Intelligence Service (ICIS) World Base Oils and Lubricants Conference off-guard as they stormed the podium to interrupt Faber’s presentation.
Faber, the Senior Vice President of Shell Lubricant EMEA, had his presentation sabotaged as the duo walked up to him, challenging him over the company’s pollution of the Niger Delta region while demanding justice for Nigeria.
“How dare you! Shell has been polluting the Niger Delta for the last 70 years. You have been poisoning the land; you have been poisoning the water; you have been poisoning the air. We demand justice for Nigeria” the male activist said as an awestruck Faber slowly backed off the stage.
“13,000 people are taking Shell to court today.” his female counterpart added before security operatives apprehended them.
The activists, however, continued with the protest as the officials dragged them off the podium.
“Pay up! Clean up!” they said.
In another separate video on TikTok, a group of activists stormed the Royal Court of Justice, demanding for justice for Niger Delta.
