The United States President, Donald Trump, has explained reason behind his decision to launch air strike on suspected terrorists’ camp in Nigeria on Christmas day.
NPO Reported that the US military would on Christmas eve last year launched multiple airstrikes targeted at terrorists’ group in the Northwest Nigeria.
While the several missiles were reported to have landed in residential area in Kaduna and Sokoto states, some terrorists camps were reportedly hit by the strike in Sokoto.
Reflecting on the attack during his address at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC on Thursday, Trump disclosed that he had deliberately ordered that the attack should be carried out on Christmas day.
This, according to him, was done as part of his efforts to revive the usage and add more significance to the word ‘Christmas’ which he claimed was getting largely unused as a term.
“When we gonna do it on a different day, I said no, do it on Christmas. So, they understood it.
“Remember in 2015 we announced that we are going to bring back Christmas because the word Christmas was almost gone. And we did. People didn’t want to use Christmas anymore.
“We brought back the word Christmas.
“I specifically told P. (Pete Hegseth), hit them on Christmas day. Not earlier and not later.” He said.
Trump further expressed his delight with the attack, stressing that no administration in history has done more in confronting alleged Christian persecution like his administration.
“No administration in modern history has done more to confront the plight of persecuted Christians around the world than us. It is a mission in coordination with government of Nigeria. We work with them.
“But they got to get tougher. I ordered powerful airstrike to decimate the ISIS terrorists who have been slaughtering Christians in that country by thousands. It’s not even believable.
“We hit them so hard they still don’t know what the hell happened.” He added.
