Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisah Metuh, has said that after assessing all the current presidential candidates, Nigeria is assured of quality leadership after the 2023 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Metuh, who recently said he was leaving partisan politics, noted there are capable candidates contesting for the election.
Metuh said the manifestos of candidates he has seen show that whoever wins will do well for the nation.
“Never in history have we had the caliber of people that we have. We have lots of candidates; about six to seven of them are very good,” he said.
“This is good for our democracy and if we look into their affairs, what they are preaching and their manifesto, any of them that wins the election and forms a national government, we believe they will do well for the country.
“The time for division and the time for differences have gone. This is the time to build; it’s the time for peace.
“We won’t get it wrong. We have Kwankwaso, Sowore, Tinubu, Peter Obi. We won’t get it wrong.”
He appealed to them to focus on issues and address what will broaden and enhance good governance in the country.
He said,”My appeal to them is to focus on things that will broaden and enhance good governance in this country and deepen democracy as well.
When asked to comment on the rift between Governor Wike of Rivers State and the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP),Atiku Abubakar, the former PDP chieftain said he’s not interested in whatever the issue between the two leaders might be.

He simply said, “Surulere,” adding that “the leadership of the party knows what to do. I’m not interested in partisan politics.”
Metuh had recently resigned from the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) claiming that his decision was based on medical advice and personal reasons
In a letter to PDP The National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, Metuh said being a member of the PDP or any political party won’t allow him to “work for the strategic interest and well-being of the Nigerian people”.
He stated, “During my three weeks trip for medical and personal reasons, I came to the realization that I can no longer play partisan politics in Nigeria.
“The reason for this decision is that from my experience and the nature of politics and development in Nigeria, I believe that I will contribute more to Democracy and good governance in Nigeria by being non-partisan.
“Being Non-Partisan gives me the status to work for the strategic interest and well-being of the Nigerian people without the hinderance of partisanship.
“In that regard, I write respectfully, to formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP and cessation of partisan politics,” the letter partly read.
“Any future participation in politics will only be limited to non-partisan involvements in areas of sustaining and deepening democracy and governance in Nigerian and at the global level.”
He urged Ayu to “insist on issue-based engagement in our political space as the country cannot afford the bitterness and divisions that may arise otherwise.”
Ayu has been in the news for months over calls for his resignation by Wike and some PDP governors and stalwarts, who insist that a northerner should not be the party’s national chairman and presidential candidate.
Wike and his allies including some other Governors, have distanced themselves from the presidential campaign team of the party.
