Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has assured women that under his administration if elected as Nigeria’s next President, women will occupy positions of note in his agenda for national development.
Obi, while celebrating women on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, said as a political leader, he had enjoyed in the past, support of women.
“As a political and business leader, I have enjoyed invaluable support and commitment from women. My commitment to ensuring a progressive gender balance in government remains solid and a top priority on my policy platform,” Obi wrote on his twitter page on Sunday.
Stating further his commitment to women’s empowerment, Obi said the special day for the celebration of women was an opportunity to celebrate great women who had contributed to the society.
He wrote, “The commemoration of International African Women’s Day today, offers us an opportunity to collectively celebrate the great contributions of our women to family, society, development, peace and unity in Africa.”
Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, was also running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the 2018 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Obi who defected from the PDP, is now seen as a popular candidate especially among young Nigerians.
