Nigerian human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has apologised to fellow activist, Yemi Adamolekun, over the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) inclusion of her name in the party’s 50-member policy manifesto committee without her consent.
NPO Reported that the ADC had earlier this week announced the formation of the committee with the Enough II Enough (EiE) movement convener included in the list.
Adamolekun had in reaction called out the party and Yesufu in a post on her X handle on Wednesday, demanding proof of her membership with the party to have warranted the inclusion.
“ADC! ADC!! ADC!!! How many times did I call you? This is not how to build credibility o!!!
Please show me evidence of when I joined your party!!
Na wa….” She wrote.
Responding in a statement issued on Friday, Yesufu apologised to the activist over the inclusion of her name without her consent.
She claimed Adamolekun’s inclusion was a mix-up while acknowledging her demand for her consent.
Yesufu further apologised to others whose name might have appeared on the list without their consent.
The statement read; “This is inexcusable and on behalf of my party, accept my apologies for this mix up. We do not take you and your need to have a better Nigeria for granted.
“Like you rightly pointed out, you ought to have been informed and your consent gotten before your name is published.
“This is well noted and going forward we will continue to ensure due diligence. Thank you for calling our attention to this.
“We can only get better when we get such feedback and improve accordingly.
“The work to rebuilding Nigeria is enormous and in our eagerness to start off we must never forget due process and diligence.
“For anyone that was also not contacted and consent gotten before publication, kindly accept my apologies for the mix up. Regards”
