A social media user has accused the Nigerian Police of abandoninig its dilapidated barracks to attend climate change summits in Dubai.
In reference to the presence of a delegation from the police led by the Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun, at the Conference of Parties COP 28 summit in Dubai, the X user with the handle, Akwa Ibom 1st Son, attached some images showing poor conditions of some of the barracks of the police which he argued ought to be its priority.
He tweeted, “Frame 1: A Police Barracks in Port Harcourt. Frame 2: Ijeh Barracks, Obalende. Frame 3: Queen’s Barracks, Apapa. Frame 4: Ikeja Police College, Ikeja.”
NPO had earlier reported that the Inspector General Of Police, Kayode Egbetokun disclosed of the plans by the Nigerian Police to Launch a “Go Green Initiative” in 2024, as a climate solution to support Nigeria’s transition to a low carbon economy.
He termed the move by the Nigerian Police as “Lack of priority.”
Egbetokun had said in Dubai that sustainable development programme will boost the Police operations efficiency and capacity to fight crime and maintain law and order in the country.
“There is a growing concern about climate change around the world.
“What the police are doing is blazing the trail so that other government agencies will follow suit.” The police chief had said
