Removes PDP’s Flag from Government House
- Safiu Kehinde
Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mani Mummuni, has declared the defection of the entire cabinet of the state governor, Dauda Lawal, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mummuni made the declaration on behalf of the governor at the government house on Monday.
As captured in a video shared on X, the deputy governor could be heard chanting the APC slogan in the state with other members of the cabinet responding in what appeared to be an affirmation of the readiness to join the APC camp alongside Lawal.
Another video clip showed moment the Zamfara officials assembled outside the state government house where Mummuni supervised the removal of the PDP flag, signaling the defection of the Lawal-led administration from the opposition party.
With Lawal’s defection, the APC now controls 31 out of the 36 states as Nigerians edge closer to the 2027 General Election.
Meanwhile, the Zamfara governor had prior to his defection poised himself as a strong critic of the APC-led administration.
Lawal had on several occasions blamed the APC of the surge of insecurity in the northern region while also accusing the ruling party of unfair treatment of states under opposition parties.
In an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW) last month, the Zamfara governor accused the President Bola Tinubu’s administration of political bias as he alleged that his state was deliberately excluded from receiving over N500 federal government’s palliative funds disbursed to other states.
Lawal alleged that his state’s exclusion from the allocation was borne out of his refusal to defect to the APC.
“I know of States that have received over 500 billion Naira from the Federal Government as palliative, but I have never received anything. I think the reason I don’t get it is because I’m not in APC.” The governor had said during the interview.
