The Zamfara State Government has announced the immediate closure of cattle markets, popularly known as ‘Kara’, in five local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Mannir Haidara, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday.
According to Haidara, the affected cattle markets include Danjibga and Kunchin-kalgo in Tsafe local government, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Anka LGA.
Others are Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru LGA, Dauran in Zurmi LGA and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim LGA.
He said that the temporary closure of the cattle markets was the outcome of the Security Council Meeting.
“This is part of the measures to address dwindling security challenges in the state.
“The government noticed with dismay the selling and loading of rustled cattle by the suspected members of armed bandits in the affected markets,” the Commissioner said.
The government therefore called on security agencies and state directorate of animal health and livestock development to ensure strict compliance on the measures.
