A 15-year-old girl identified as Esther Eniefiok has died from severe trauma, following a fresh wave of demolitions by the Lagos State Government (LASG) which swept through parts of Oworonshoki in Lagos.
The operation resumed in the early hours of Thursday at the Precious Seed Community.
A video posted by Sahara Reporters on X showed the lifeless body of Esther on a bed covered in a wrapper.
Residents who spoke with SaharaReporters said Esther’s death is the second fatality recorded within 24 hours, raising fresh concerns about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the area.
Meanwhile, an elderly man, popularly called Baba Aro, was also confirmed dead on Wednesday.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows Esther’s lifeless body covered with a wrapper as grieving neighbours wailed in the background.
Speaking through tears, the deceased’s brother, Paul Eniefiok, said Esther had been mentally and emotionally destabilised since Sunday, November 23, 2025, when armed personnel of the Lagos State Task Force, accompanied by police officers and suspected thugs, stormed Oworonshoki to begin yet another round of demolition.
“Esther had been emotionally unstable since Sunday’s violent operation,” he said.
“Her condition worsened drastically when she learned that the burning of houses had reached close to their family’s residence. Overcome by fear and trauma, Esther sadly passed away this morning.”
Residents say the latest demolition wave has been the most violent they have witnessed yet and accused state-backed operatives of carrying out the destruction with no resettlement plan or prior notice.
NPO reports that despite a ruling by a High Court on October 23, 2025 in favour of community residents, the demolition teams returned to continue the demolition process.
