No fewer than 156 vulnerable Libyan returnees have, on Tuesday, arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on their X handle on Wednesday.
According to NEMA, the returnees comprising of 77 adult males, 67 adult females, seven children, and five infants, arrived at approximately 7:15pm on charter flight operated by Al-Buraq Airline.
The agency disclosed that the evacuation of the Nigerian migrants was facilitated by its Lagos Territorial Office in collaboration with the International Organization of Migration (IOM), National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Nigerian Police Force amongst others.
The statement read in part; “NEMA Lagos Territorial Office LTO, in collaboration with IOM and other stakeholders, has continued to facilitate the safe, humane, and dignified return of Nigerian citizens from Libya.
“The returnees arrived at approximately 19:15 hours on a charter flight operated by Al-Buraq Airline, registration number 5A-BAA, with 156 individuals on board.
“The group consisted of 77 adult males, 67 adult females, 7 children, and 5 infants.
“The other returnees underwent biometric profiling conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service, while additional humanitarian assistance was provided by various government agencies to ensure their well-being.
“Stakeholders present included NCFRMI, IOM, NAPTIP, the Police, and FAAN.”
