The Health System Strengthening (HSS) Cluster, led by the Council for Affirmative Action (COFAA) in Kebbi, has urged Dr Nasir Idris, to dedicate budget line in the 2025 state budget for adequate Primary Healthcare Centres’ supervision in the state.
The Executive Director COFAA in the state, Mbami Iliya-Sabka, made the appeal at the Kebbi House of Assembly complex in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
”The HSS cluster urges the Kebbi Government to prioritise this initiative in its 2025 budget to ensure that every citizen has access to quality healthcare services.
”By doing so, the state will be taking a crucial step towards achieving a stronger, more effective healthcare system that benefits all.
”This budget line is crucial to ensuring adequate supervision of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across Kebbi.
”This initiative is of paramount importance towards the improvement of healthcare services in the state,” he said.
Iliya-Sabka explained that, “the HSS Cluster is a consortium of six Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working together on a project titled: “Improved Quality Healthcare Service Delivery through Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS)”.
He added that the project was being implemented by Better Life Restoration International (BERI) in collaboration with COFAA, with the goal of enhancing healthcare delivery and ensuring the establishment of a functional private sector engagement department in each of the three senatorial zones of the state.
”Currently, the project has identified a significant gap in the supervision of PHCs within Kebbi.
”While the main PHCs in each ward receive regular supervision, many other centers remain unsupervised.
”This lack of comprehensive oversight highlights the urgent need for the proposed budget line to ensure that all PHCs in Kebbi receive the you necessary supervision and support to operate effectively,” he noted.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project is being funded by USAID, and spans five years, from Oct. 2020 to Oct. 2025.
NAN also reports that the project is being implemented in collaboration with Palladium and Nigeria Resource Partners (RPs). NAN
