A California woman watched her neighborhood burn through her Ring doorbell camera
Though her Ring doorbell camera, Marika Erdely watched as the Palisades Fire ravaged her neighborhood of Topanga and approached her home near the Getty Villa Museum.
“My daughter reminded me to check my Ring camera. When I opened the app, I saw the plants on fire and my neighbor’s stuff burning behind our home,” Erdely told CNN. “The home next to me which is under construction looked like it was burning down.”
Ring video Erdely shared with CNN shows embers flying and massive flames approaching her home. The cameras cut off around 5:51 p.m. local time and as of Wednesday morning Erdely does not know if her home still stands.
Erdely told CNN she, along with her cousin, dog and granddaughter, safely evacuated the area around 11:15 a.m. local time after receiving the initial evacuation notices.
“When we looked out the window there was this giant orange glow, so we went outside to see what it was and when looked to the left we saw this smoke plume coming from the Pacific Palisades,” Erdely said. “When I got the evacuation notice my cousin and I quickly put our things into bags and laundry baskets and left.
The northbound lane was completely full, and first responders were trying to get through. Just the sounds and everything were very scary. It felt apocalyptic.”
The videos Erdely shared with CNN show how the flames and smoke from the Palisades Fire quickly approached her home within six hours. CNN
