Amidst growing discontents over the impending announcement of a new Eleruwa of Eruwa, Chairman of the Council of Elders of Eruwa, Chief Joseph Peluola on Saturday asked Governor Seyi Makinde to allow the kingmakers do their job of selecting a new monarch.
Speaking on a live radio programme on Saturday, Chief Peluola said the choice of the deposed Eleruwa, Samuel Adegbola to return did not follow the due process.
Peluola said it was the failure to follow the procedure that caused the deposition of Adegbola in the first place after ruling for 21 years.
The Elders Council Chairman said the Governor should have learnt from the first coming of Adegbola.
He said at no time did the kingmakers set eyes on the contestants to the throne adding that meeting the contestants would have allowed the kingmakers to know them intimately.
“The Afobajes should be allowed to see these princes and interview them. And to even confirm that each of the contestants has right to contest. The Afobajes were not allowed to interview these contestants. The Afobajes were not allowed to do their selections. Why is that? Is it that the Afobajes were armtwisted?” Peluola said on radio
Peluola said he was not against any candidate for the position adding it is the process he is against.
“I am not against anybody they choose. But let the selection follow due process. It was the failure to follow the due process that Adegbola was deposed. We should have learnt from that. They were saying that this is what the Governor wants. That is what the Governor wants. I am for the right process. Whoever emerges, let the process be right.”
NPO Reports gathered that various groups in the town are up against the choice of Adegbola with the possibility of protests in the coming week
