The Osun State Police Command has begun the enforcement of the third-party insurance policy compliance as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
NPO reported that the IGP, on Friday, issued the directive which began to take effect in states across Nigeria.
The Command in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Yemisi Olawoyin, announced the commencement of the enforcement exercise in the state.
According to the statement, this move aimed to ensure all vehicle owners in Osun State comply with the provisions of Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act.
Olawoyin disclosed that the Osun state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Umar Abba, psc, emphasized the Command’s commitment to protecting road users from motor accident risks. Vehicle owners are urged to secure valid insurance, as non-compliance will result in sanctions.
The enforcement team, as contained in the statement, consists of personnel from the Osun State Police Command, OSun State Transport Management System (O.S.T.M.S) and Osun State Internal Revenue Service.
Vehicle owners are urged to verify their insurance certificates’ authenticity and validity.
