The Akwa-Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected hoodlum with a locally made single-barrel gun recovered in the process
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who disclosed this in a statement in Uyo, said that the breakthrough followed a distress call from the public.
John said that the command received credible information on Monday that a suspected criminal, armed with a firearm was threatening a household at Iton Odoro Village in Ikono Local Government Area.
The PPRO said that police operatives mobilised to the location, and in collaboration with the local vigilance group, successfully disarmed and apprehended the suspect without any casualty.
“The complainant told police that he was at home with his family when the suspect entered the compound through the back gate and threatened them with a locally made firearm.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody, while the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit,” John said.
John said that the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, had commended members of the public for their cooperation and support to the police.
She said that the commissioner was fully resolved to ensure effective crime policing in order to protect lives and property.
John urged residents to always provide timely and credible information about suspicious persons movements around their communities to the police for action.
