Following report of alleged extortion of citizens traveling by some police officers along the Lagos Airport Road, the Airport Police Command has stated that it has commenced investigations.
This was stated by Spokesperson, Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via the the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Police force X handle, @policeNG_CRU on Saturday.
NPO reports that the statement is in response to an X user, @General_Somto, who brought the issue to public notice, calling for action to be taken.
“Something Should Be Done About Police Officers At Lagos AirPort Road. They Will Stop You And Try To Extort You And When You React, They Will Tell You That They Will Make You Miss Your Flight”.- Man Narrates Encounter With Nigeria Police On His Way To The AirPort.” he wrote.
He also posted a video alongside the caption in which the affected citizens were keen on the police officers checking their luggages by the road side where they were stopped and not inside the station.
The unidentified civilian narrated his experience stating that he was to board a flight to Delta State when they were stopped.
He noted that the policemen asked what he does for a living which according to him, is wrong for any police officer to ask a civilian in the absence of their lawyer.
He also alleged that the policemen attempted to extort them in which he refused after which the officer resorted to threatening them with missing their flight.
Meanwhile, the police noted that the force headquarters have swung into action and CP Airport command has been contacted.
“We will act, and our actions will be noticed, asap. Thanks”
