The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has advised Nigerians to embrace self-sacrifice while stressing that poverty is not a crime.
Akpabio gave the advice while reflecting on the life time of late Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis, during an interview with then Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) network over the weekend.
NPO Reported that the Senate President had on Saturday led a five-man delegate to the final burial ceremony of Pope Francis held at St. Peter’s Square, Rome, Italy.
As captured in a video shared on X on Monday, Akpabio, while speaking lessons for Nigerians from the Pope’s lifetime, harped on the need to emulate the Catholic Pontiff who lived a humble lifestyle despite his influence.
He claimed that poverty can sometimes be a virtue of God as he reiterated the need to share ones possession with others.
“When you look at the Catholic church, it is not just a church. The Vatican is also regarded as a state. So, you have a Head of State that died and was buried today.
“The Pope was worth only $100, showing that we can worship God in splendour and the best way to worship God is to worship Him through self-sacrifice for others.
“The message is very clear that Nigerians should love one another and that poverty is not a crime. Poverty sometimes can be a virtue of God. Whatever, you should be able to share with your brothers and sisters.” Akpabio said.
