UK-based Nigerian pro-democracy activist and television personality, Kayode Ogundamisi, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of double standards in the arrest of Nigerian businessman and socialite, Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money.
NPO Reported that the EFCC had on Monday stormed E-Money’s Lagos residence where he was arrested.
The socialite was transferred to the Commission’s headquarters for questioning over alleged currency abuse.
NPO Reports gathered that his arrest was traced to a viral clip of him spraying Nigerian singer, Flavour, at a recent event with what appeared to be foreign currency.
Commenting on his arrest in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Ogundamisi, said the EFCC keeps playing into the hands of critics with the double standard nature of their operation.
He questioned if there are different laws guiding their handling of cases as he recalled the case of the children of Nigerian businessman, Rasaq Okoya, who were also caught in a viral video spraying Naira notes but we’re not apprehended by the EFCC.
“One law for E – Money, another law for Okoyas children?
“EFCC you can’t keep playing into the hands of your critics.” Ogundamisi wrote.
NPO Reported the Naira abuse incident of the Okoya’s sons, Wahab and Rasaq, who were seen at a party earlier this year spraying each other with wads of Naira notes held by a police officer.
While the Nigerian Police Force apprehended and detained the officer involved in the incident, the EFCC summoned the Okoyas which they refused to honour.
