A yet-to-be identified officer of the Nigerian Police Force has been caught on camera demanding for N5,000 and litres of fuel from travellers.
As captured in the now viral video recorded by one of the travellers and shared on social media on Monday, the policeman had first demanded the motorist’s electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) certificate.
Following the motorist’s refusal to provide the certificate, stressing that it is illegal, the officer challenged him to call whoever he knows.
When asked on the way forward, the officer asked the motorist to give him money for five litres of fuel which he estimated to be N5,000.
Another driver also stopped at the police checkpoint could be seen squeezing Naira notes in the hand of the officer who also demanded for three litres of petrol from the driver.
However, the Police Force is yet to comment on the incident which again raised concern over the spate of bribery and unlawful extortion of motorists by officers of the Force.
