Popular Nigerian clergyman, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has on Tuesday turned himself up to the police over the viral video of him pointing an object suspected to be a gun at a car spotter.
NPO Reported that the House on the Rock Church’s Senior Pastor had come under the public spotlight earlier this month after the video of him allegedly pointing a weapon at the car spotter went viral.
While the clergyman had since denied pointing a gun at the content creator, the Lagos Police Command in a post on it X handle confirmed his presence at its headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday for interrogation over the incident.
“No one is above the law! Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja and is currently being interrogated by detectives who have commenced investigation on the case since a video surfaced online showing the pastor holding a gun-like object against another road user, while driving in an unregistered vehicle. The outcome of the investigation will be made public.” The post read.
The Police, in an update of the interrogation, confirmed that the object was not a lethal weapon or firearm.
As disclosed in a post shared on the Command’s X handle yesterday evening, the object now recovered from the clergyman was a stun gun- a prohibited anti-riot equipment.
Adefarasin has however been granted bail while the police maintained that investigation is still ongoing.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered cautionary statement to the police investigators.
“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment.
“The pastor has been granted bail while investigations continue into the case.” The post read.
