Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, and human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, have joined suspended Kogi lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court for the hearing of the defamation suit filed against her by the Federal Government.
NPO Reported that the FG had sued Akpoti-Uduaghan on three counts charge bordering on alleged defamation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District arrived at the Court’s premises alongside her husband with Ezekwesili and Yesufu joining other supporters at court’s premises in solidarity with the embattled lawmaker.
The FG had in one of the counts accused the Senator of making an imputation concerning Akpabio, at a television interview where she alleged the Senate President had with Yahaya Bello plotted to eliminate her.
“Let’s ask the Senate President, why in the first instance did he withdraw my security, if not to make me vulnerable to attacks. He then emphasized that I should be killed, but I should be killed in Kogi.” She had said.
In count two, Akpoti-Uduaghan was accused of “Making an imputation knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person, contrary to Section 391 of the Penal Code Law, Cap. 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990, and punishable under Section 392 of the same Law.
