Expresses Regret in Supporting Party
- Safiu Kehinde
Former Kogi State lawmaker, Sen. Dino Melaye, has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration over the worsening economic situation in the country.
Melaye, a former member of the APC, expressed regret for backing the ruling party as he described the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu as a car driven by a drunken driver.
The ex-lawmaker made the remark during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today’s Programme on Friday.
He claimed that Nigeria’s economic had never been this disastrous as he faulted the APC’s defence of what it considered as tough decisions made by the Tinubu-led administration.
“I regret in totality just like you every day. I took the Lord’s prayer confession of sin every day and ask for forgiveness. Anyone who has moved with the devil and unholy tendency should definitely regret it.
“You don’t need a prophet to tell you what is happening in this country. You don’t need anyone. It is visible even to the blind that we are in a precarious situation in this country like we have never been.
“It has never been this disastrous. It has never been this terrible. The hunger in the land is chartered. People are dying of malnutrition in the rural communities in this country.
“People are beginning to visit garbage centres to look for crumbs and food. Take a trip today to your village and just announce that you want to share two bags of rice.
“If you are not careful, there will be dead casualties as a result of the struggle just to get one tin or two tin of rice.
“APC speaks in tongues. What they are telling you about taking tough decisions, they are telling you that they are putting you Nigerians on a tough turf.
“We are taking you through rigorous struggle. We are taking you through hunger and malnutrition. We are taking you through insecurity and problems that you have never seen before.
“When you have a GPRS, you are likely to get to your destination. APC and this government are a car being driven by a drunken driver.
The possibility of getting to your destination is not there. What they meant by Renewed Hope is renewed hope for the hopeless. In the sense that those who believe in hope, they are as announcing the obituary of hope too.” Melaye said.
Recall that the ex-lawmaker had on Thursday announced his membership withdrawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defection the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
As against claim that his defection to the ADC coalition party was influenced by former PDP chieftain Atiku Abubakar, Melaye in the interview dismissed the claims.
He further ruled out claims that the Atiku had led the coalition group to adopt the ADC for his Presidential ambition which he is yet to formally declare.
Melaye held that he is not interested in talks about his preferred presidential candidate until the party is completely stabilised and organised enough to deliver Nigeria from what he described as the “satanic manifestation” of the APC.
“At this stage, I do not want us to put that at the front banner especially those of us in the ADC.
“We need to create a comfortable stable platform, and I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“I have made it a point of duty that I will not be talking about the Presidential candidate or presidential aspirant or preference for anybody until we get the party completely stabilised and organise a transparently honest convention will produce the Presidential candidate.
“Atiku is yet to declare his intention to run for the 2027 election. But what Atiku is doing is rescuing this country. Bringing together men of honour and valour to ameliorate, to correct, to palliate the satanic manifestation of the APC in this country.” The ex-Kogi lawmaker added.
