Sokoto State Government has procured nine ultrasound and three X-ray machines to enhance healthcare services at general hospitals in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Faruku Wurno, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Monday in Sokoto.
Wurno said the ultrasound machines were distributed to nine general hospitals while the three X-ray machines were allocated to each of the three Senatorial Districts.
He said the efforts would reduce the number of patients travelling to Sokoto for investigations from the rural areas.
Wurno said that health sector has been witnessing revival under the present administration of Gov. Ahmad Aliyu, who inherited a myriad of challenges and had now repositioned the sector for effective service delivery.
He explained that the state government had adopted a twin-pronged approach to healthcare delivery, attracting simultaneous investments in curative and preventative services to improve health indices across the state.
Wurno highlighted that the state government had also launched a state-wide needs assessment, which exposed glaring gaps and helped develop a strategic framework to tackle challenges at the primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare levels.
The commissioner said ten general hospitals were undergoing rehabilitation and many hospitals were being equipped with beds, incubators, solar-powered systems, and water supply through boreholes and overhead tanks.
According to him, government is equally pursuing the speedy completion of two general hospitals in Dange-Shuni and Wamakko Local Government Areas, earlier abandoned.
“This government is not just reacting alone, we plan for programmes to serves as game-changer, because health is wealth,” he said. NAN
