There is palpable tension in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja this Monday morning as protesters asking for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu have taken to the streets.
Men of the Nigerian Police Force, in the FCT command have however responded with equal force forcing many of the protesters and organisers to flee.
Police had to tear-gas the protesters to force them away from the various locations where they had taken position for the protest.
Kanu has been in detention since he extradition from Kenya over activities considered to be inimical to the stability of Nigeria.

He has since been undergoing trials for his alleged crimes.
He has been accused of felony.
In the process of the protests on Monday, Kanu’s younger brother and his lawyer were arrested by men of the FCT command and whisked to their headquarters.
Protests had affected vehicular movements as civil servants and self-employed residents were stuck in traffic while many bus stops were filled with stranded commuters.
In a post shared by Kanu’s wife, Uche, she said on Monday that those taking part in the protests were not alone but “carrying “the hopes of many.”
