Embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has called out the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) over alleged distortion of reports on his ongoing trial.
NPO Reported that Kanu had on Monday appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja to defended himself in his ongoing trial on alleged terrorism.
However, before the commencement of the trial, the IPOB leader asked if the NAN is present in the court for the coverage of the trial.
He thereafter slammed the agency, labelling it a lying agency.
As captured in a video shared on X, Kanu accused NAN of distorting the news, stressing that the agency has no knowledge about the law.
“Where is the lying News Agency of Nigeria? Are they here? Those liars and deceivers. They are here.
“They distort the news. They don’t know what law is.
“They don’t know what justice is. They don’t know that God is a God of justice. They don’t know that.” Kanu said.
However, Kanu at the resumed proceedings on Monday, said he has gone through his case file and there is no charge against him.
According to reports, the IPOB leader held that there is no extant law in Nigeria that can prosecute him.
“Join me in praising God. I have gone through my case file, and there is no charge against me,” he started.
“There is no extant law in this country upon which the prosecution can predicate the charges against me. If there’s any, let my Lord read it out to me.
“So, I should not enter any defence in a charge that does not exist under any law in Nigeria. I urge you to release me today or grant me bail.”
Justice James Omotosho asked him to file a written address to that effect and serve the prosecution.
