A Police officer has been identified to be among the casualties confirmed dead in a multiple crash along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
NPO earlier Reported that the incident which occurred in the early hours of Thursday on the popular Kara Bridge outward Ibadan had claimed lives of eight people.
While the cause of the incident was not initially confirmed, the crash had involved a truck and a container laden trailer which erupted in flames while another truck spilt its contents (cartons of biscuits) on the road.
Also involved in the chain reaction of the multiple crash was a container laden truck which ran onto the barrier with its carrier falling off the bridge into the river.
Meanwhile, an update on the incident on Thursday afternoon disclosed that the tragic incident had occurred after an incoming truck rammed into a stationery truck carrying cartons of biscuits along the bridge.
According to report, the stationery truck had around 4am knocked down a pedestrian who died instantly.
The truck driver attempted to flee after the incident but was chased by police officers who eventually apprehended him and truck on Kara bridge.
While the police were trying tow the truck off the road with a towing vehicle, another incoming truck rammed into the stationery truck, earmarking the beginning of the tragic incident.
The crash saw the stationery truck knocked off the road alongside the towing vehicle.
This had led to the fire which burnt four people, including the police, to death.
The incident had led to heavy traffic gridlock around the axis, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
