Members of the Taraba state House of Assembly have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the planned defection by the state governor, Agbu Kefas, to the ruling party.
Kefas is set to officially leave the PDP and join the APC on Wednesday.
Ahead of the defection, the 24-member Taraba Assembly who were elected under the PDP platform defected to the APC on Monday
They cited persistent internal disputes at the national level as the reason for their departure.
The lawmakers also harped on the need to align with the centre to ensure federal presence and developmental benefits for Taraba State.
According to reports, the mass defection marked a significant consolidation of the party in the state legislature ahead of the governor’s formal move.
Meanwhile, Kefas defection would see him add to the tally of PDP state governors to have departed from the opposition party to the ruling party.
NPO Reported the defection of Bayelsa State Governor, Douyle Diri, who formally joined the APC from the PDP earlier this month.
Prior to Diri’s defection, the APC had in past months received the likes of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mba, and his Akwa-Ibom counterpart, Umo Eno.
