Four of the six abducted Ministry of Defence Directors have been rescued from their kidnappers’ den after over two weeks in captivity.
NPO Reported that the Directors who were travelling from Lagos to Abuja for Directorate-level promotion examination on the 10th of November were kidnapped along Kabba-Lokoja highway in Kogi State.
The Directors who members of the union and staff of Command Day Secondary School (CDSS), Ojo, Lagos. were ambushed by the heavily armed men in what has been described as a “well-coordinated attack.”
The release of four out of the six senior officers were on Friday confirmed released by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN).
As contained in a statement jointly signed by its President, Shehu Mohammed, and Secretary-General, Joshua Apebo, thw ASCSN commended the security agencies for securing the release of four abducted Directors of the Federal Ministry of Defence.
The union said that the four of the six victims had regained freedom and were undergoing medical checks.
As identified in the statement, the rescued victims include Mrs Helen Ezeakor, Mrs Ladoye C.A., Mrs Ngozi Ibeziakor and Mrs Essien Catherine O., while Mrs Emeribe C.A. and Mrs Onwuzurike J.A. are still missing.
The union urged the Defence Ministry and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining two officials unhurt.
It also renewed its call for decentralising examinations and verification exercises to reduce workers’ exposure to travel-related security risks.
The union commended President Bola Tinubu for efforts to curb insecurity and ensure safer travel for Nigerians.
