The All Progressive Congress (APC) Governors have pledged to strengthen local security architecture in their respective states.
The governors under the aegis of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) made the pledge at the conclusion of their two-day meeting held in Lagos.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting on Saturday, the forum’s chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, maintained that the safety of lives and properties remain non-negotiable obligation of every state government.
While commending President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing restructuring of the country’s security architecture, Uzodinma disclosed the forum’s resolution to strengthening community-based security initiative, intelligence gathering, and conflict prevention mechanisms amongst others.
“The forum resolves to strengthen local security architecture in all the states.
“The Forum commended Mr. President for the ongoing re-engineering of the security architecture of the country.
“The Governors reiterated that safety of lives and property remains the non-negotiable obligation of government.
“The Forum resolves to continue strengthening community-based security initiative, intelligence gathering, conflict prevention mechanisms, and support for victims of violence and disaster.” Uzodinma said.
He charged all the governors to promote unity in their respective state as he harped on the importance of social cohesion, inter-state harmony, and inter-ethnic understanding.
“The forum underscores the importance of social cohesion, inter-state harmony, and inter-ethnic understanding and urged all the leaders to use their voice and platforms to promote unity.” The Imo state governor added.
