The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has condemned the viral video bandits prank played on students within the campus.
As contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, the video which was created and uploaded on social media on Friday by Datreez Entertainment TV, depicted a group of individuals dressed like bandits with fake guns to prank students.
Reacting to the video, Thomas-Onashile disassociated the institution from the content.
The Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, held that no form of approval, authorisation, or endorsement was given for the recording of the video.
She reiterated the management’s stance against any prank that can incite fear, disrupt campus peace, or threaten the sense of safety of its students and staff.
The statement read; “The attention of the Lagos State University (LASU) Management has been drawn to a viral video titled “Bandits Prank on Lasuites,” created and uploaded by Datreez Entertainment TV on Friday, 5th December 2025 at 9p.m.
“This video depicts individuals dressed in a manner that created immediate fear and panic, entering the University campus with equipment and prompting distress amongst students.
“The University wishes to categorically state that it did not give any form of approval, authorisation, or endorsement for the recording of the said video. The actions taken by Datreez Entertainment TV constituted unauthorised filming on the University campus which is unacceptable.
“LASU strongly condemns acts or content that portray or suggest banditry, terrorism, or violent extremism. The University does not support or encourage any so-called prank that can incite fear, disrupt campus peace, or threaten the sense of safety of its students and staff, particularly at a time when Nigeria faces significant national security challenges.
“Lagos State University remains committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and peaceful learning environment, and members of the University community are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the LASU Security Unit promptly.”
