The Senate has on Thursday approved all 64 for career and non-career ambassadors-designate nominated by President Bola Tinubu.
This is coming after the red chamber’s consideration of a report by the Committee on Foreign Affairs during its plenary session.
Senator Sani Bello, the chairman of the committee, had presented the report before the lawmakers, after which the recommendations were adopted.
Recall that Tinubu submitted the list of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for approval.
The list comprised of notable figures like former Presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri; ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode; and former Chairman of the Independent and National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yaukubu, amongst others.
However, during the session, Senator Sahabi Yau raised an objection, drawing attention to the absence of any nominee from Zamfara State on the list.
The lawmaker reportedly urged that the President be notified of the omission.
In response, the Senate President acknowledged the concern, explaining that the current list was not exhaustive.
He assured lawmakers that he would raise the matter with the President.
Akpabio further affirms that additional ambassadorial nominations are expected and that Zamfara State would not be excluded.
