The United States President, Donald Trump has confirmed the attacks and large scale invasion of Venezuela.
NPO Reported that the US had in the early hours of Saturday launched multiple air strikes on the country with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reportedly arrested.
Viral video of the attack showed smoke billowing from the target areas with the impact of the strike triggering emergency alarm on several vehicles parked nearby the affected area.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued on his social media handle and shared by the White House, Trump declared the attack as successful.
The US President also confirmed the capture of Maduro who was arrested alongside his wife, Cilia Flores.
The couple had since being extradited with Trump announcing that News Conference will be held soon for further details.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.
“This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” He wrote.
While also confirming the attack, the United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, highlighted Maduro’s alleged offences which prompted the attack and his arrest.
As contained in a statement issued on her official X handle, Bondi disclosed that the Venezuelan President was alongside his wife indicted by the South District of New York with charges ranging from Narco-Terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation, to possession of machine guns and destructive devices.
“Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.
“They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.
“On behalf of the entire U.S. DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American People, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers.” The US Attorney General wrote.
