Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has ordered probe into the murder of a mother, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of the state.
Yusuf described the incident as barbaric, senseless, and a grave assault on human dignity as he mourned the demise of the victims.
In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday, Yusuf extended his condolences to the bereaved’s family, the people of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the entire Kano State.
The governor vowed that his administration would ensure that perpetrators of the tragic incident, are brought to justice as hedirected the Kano State Police Command to immediately hunt down the perpetrators and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted.
According to the statement, Yusuf also ordered the Kano Neighborhood Corps, to intensify patrols and community surveillance across vulnerable areas, to prevent a recurrence of such tragedy.
He called on residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities, while assuring that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property.
Yusuf prayed that Allah grants the departed souls, eternal rest and gives their loved ones the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
According to reports, a group of assailants had on Saturday broke into the house of the victims and attacked them with dangerous weapons.
A statement by the Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, further confirmed the incident, disclosing that the command received a distress call at about 12:10 pm on Saturday with report of an attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.
According to Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately deployed a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Mani.
On arrival at the scene, the victims were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
“The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” Kiyawa said.
Meanwhile, the motive of the assailants’ attack on the family still largely remains unknown.
