Onitsha Main Market traders have resumed business after one week shutdown of the market by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.
NPO Reported that Soludo had last week paid an unscheduled visit to the market where he discovered that most shops were under lock and keys as the traders were observing the Monday sit-at-home order despite the state government’s lifting of the ban.
Mass protest by the traders would ensue the following day in the market.
This was followed by blockage of the Onitsha bridge with video shared on X showing the protesters barricading both lanes with empty oil barrels and tree branches.
Commuters were left stranded at both end of the bridge as they watched on helplessly.
Today however presented a different narrative as traders resumed business.
Videos shared on X showed the market roaring back to life on a Monday morning for the first time in over two years.
Shops were seen open with traders and customers carrying out their daily business.
