Kwara State Government has claimed that 75 local Muslims in Worro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state were murdered by assailants over their refusal to accept the extremists’ preaching.
Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, the state governor, made this known during his condolence visit to the community where he was received alongside other service chiefs by the Emir of Kaiama.
According to him, the deceased victims had rejected what he described as strange doctrine preached by the assailants, leading to their gruesome murder.
The governor expressed his sadness over the tragic incident which reportedly left over 170 dead.
He announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of immediate deployment of an army battalion to prosecute counter offensives codenamed ‘Operation Savannah Shield’.
The attack on Worro community marked the latest in series of onslaught carried out in the state over the past few states.
NPO Reported the suspected bandits had in November 2025 stormed Eruku community on Ekiti LGA where they abducted 38 worshippers.
While they were released after a week in captivity, another attack would be reported at Isapa community in the same LGA with 11 people, including a pregnant woman, abducted.
